الابتزاز (وتسمى أيضا الابتزاز، outwresting، واقتضاء) تعتبر جريمة جنائية والتي تحدث عندما يكون الشخص بالحصول على المال بطريقة غير مشروعة من شخص، وكيان ، أو مؤسسة، عن طريق الإكراه. يمارس عادة الابتزاز من قبل جماعات متخصصة بجرائم منظمة. لا يلزم الحصول الفعلي للأموال أو ممتلكات لارتكاب الجريمة. مما يشكل تهديدا للعنف الذي يشير إلى اشتراط دفع أموال أو ممتلكات لوقف العنف في المستقبل غير كافية لارتكاب الجريمة. اقتضاء لا يشير إلا إلى الابتزاز أو غير قانوني وتطالب بالحصول على شيء عن طريق القوة،[١] ولكن بالإضافة إلى ذلك ، في تعريف رسمي لها، يعني إلحاق شيء مثل الألم والمعاناة أو صنع اشياء واعمال غير سارة للشخص.
